About Shanti Wind of Peaceful Wind
Growing up on Vancouver Island, Shanti was always surrounded by nature. So it is natural that this is where he would draw his influence from. His love for plants started at an early age- at the age of twelve Shanti began spending his weekends and summers working with his Grandfather Bill and his Grandmother Joan on their organic farm in Sooke, ‘Blue Otter Farm’.
After high school Shanti worked as a private gardener, before he started Peaceful Wind. While installing a decorative vegetable garden for a client, he met local excavator/ landscaper Bruce Hensen. Bruce asked Shanti if he wanted to work for him. Shanti expressed interest in learning how to build rock walls. It turned out that Bruce was a third generation stone mason, his family having built several stone churches in Victoria. Bruce asked Shanti if he wanted to learn how to build water features and assured him that he would learn masonry while doing so. Shanti worked with Bruce for one and a half years, then he began taking on water feature and masonry jobs of his own.
In 2003 Shanti moved to Vancouver. There he worked with American Pools installing concrete pools and hot tubs. He also teamed up with local builders and has installed numerous water features all over the lower mainland. In Vancouver Shanti also honed his skills installing pavingstones, pergolas, arbours and fences.
In August of 2007 Shanti moved back to Vancouver Island where he is still installing unique landscapes inspired by nature. Shanti shares his Nanaimo home with his lovely wife, Dana, and their three children.
